Fishmonger apprentices may work in independent high street fishmongers, supermarket fish counters or even mobile fishmonger vans. The fishmonger apprenticeship is about so much more than filleting fish. A fishmonger apprentice also needs excellent customer service and selling skills to develop good relationships with their customers. The apprenticeship helps build a broad range of skills, making apprentices highly valued employees. Talented fishmonger apprentices may go on to run or even own a fishmongering business.
Duration: 24 months
Funding Band: 15 (£12,000)
Training Programme: The apprentice must develop the core knowledge, skills and behaviours outlined in the Fishmonger Standard plus the mandatory qualifications before applying for end-point assessment.
Mandatory Qualifications: Level 1 Mathematics
Level 1 English
Apprentices without Level 2 English and Mathematics are required to attempt these qualifications. Success at this level is not a requirement for end-point assessment though.

FDQ are approved to deliver end-point assessment for the Level 2 Fishmonger apprenticeship.

These offer learners the opportunity to develop practical skills and knowledge in an off-the-job learning environment.These qualifications are designed to support progression into further learning and work-based learning.
Jason Bennellick, of Prima Bakeries, Scorrier, has become the first bakery apprentice in England to successfully complete the L2 Craft Baker Apprenticeship, achieving a Merit grade.
The L2 Baker Standard contains three distinct routes, one of which is Craft Baker. This specialism was designed to revive traditional craft bakery skills, which the apprentice must prove in their bakery end-point assessment.
Supporting Jason in his apprenticeship learning and end-point assessment preparation were Truro and Penwith College. The college introduced the Baker Apprenticeship Standard in 2018, in recognition of the importance of the baking industry to the Cornish economy.
Baking Lecturer and course developer, David Williams, who himself has 40 years’ experience in craft bakery said he was ‘very proud’ of Jason’s achievement. He added,
‘It has been a pleasure to work alongside Prima to develop our Bakery Apprenticeship programme and deliver the skills needed in the workplace’
