The National Federation of Meat and Food Traders (NFMFT) have revealed the eight young butchers who are to compete for the title of Premier Young Butcher at Foodex, NEC, on 16th April. The competition celebrates the best new butchery talent in the UK.
Amongst those talented butchers are two Butchery Standard apprentices. Stephen Maltby of Walter Smiths Fine Foods, successfully completed his Level 2 Butcher end-point assessment last year and is now working toward the Advanced Butchery apprenticeship. Daniel Symes, of Aubrey Allen will also be competing and is working towards his Level 2 butchery apprenticeship. Both are trained by Crosby Butchery Training.
Keith Fisher, Chief Executive of the Institute of Meat, who were involved in the development of the standard, commented,
“The fact that only a relatively short time since the launch of the butchery standard we have these young apprentices competing at national level is living proof that this apprenticeship really delivers.”
