Responding to the introduction of unannounced retailer audits and unannounced BRC audits, Verner Wheelock Associates (VWA) have developed specialist auditing skills programmes for the food industry.

FDQ is delighted to endorse these auditing skills training programmes. They have been designed to enable businesses to ready themselves for the unannounced audits which have become part of life in the food industry.

A member of the Warburtons family enjoyed a slice of college life after being invited to officially open new bakery teaching facilities in Leeds this week.

Executive Director Mr Brett Warburton paid a visit to the invitation only event at Leeds City College’s new Printworks Campus in Leeds on the 4th of February.

The event, at which Mr Warburton unveiled a special plaque to mark the occasion, was attended by representatives from high profile bakery businesses including AAK, Bakels, Callebaut, Bettys and Fox’s Biscuits.

As more and more employers are taking ownership of their on and off the job training, it is vital that high quality workplace training skills and knowledge are properly developed and recognised.

We have launched this new workplace training qualification - effectively a train the trainer programme - to enable businesses to ensure their workplace trainers' skills and knowledge are optimised.  The more skilled the trainer; the more effective the training and the greater benefits for both worker and business.

A massive well done to UCB's assistant dean Dawn Gemmell, who created a spectacular “toybox” celebration cake for the future king, Prince George.

The elaborate storybook cake, was presented to the prince’s father, the Duke of Cambridge, during a private visit to the university in November. The visit included a private lunch attended by specially chosen UCB students, including two lucky FDQ Professional Bakery students. 

Dawn, who is head of bakery at UCB’s College of Food, has now baked cakes for three generations of the Royal family.

Many FDQ centres already have a presence on this site, so in order to support their promotional work I wanted to provide background information about our remit.

Walter Smith Fine Foods, a specialist meat and fine foods business, based in Birmingham, was last night revealed as the Medium Employer of the Year 2013 in the National Apprenticeship Awards at a ceremony at the NEC.

The Awards, are run by the National Apprenticeship Service and recognise excellence in two areas: businesses that grow their own talent with apprentices and apprentices who have made a significant contribution to their workplaces.
