WorldskillsfinalistsAfter months of hard work the Butchery final at WorldSkills took place on 17th and 18th November at the Birmingham NEC. Competitors were the highest scorers from heats in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Tuesday 21st February see’s the annual Institute of Meat (IoM) prizegiving taking place. The ceremony will take place at Tallow Chandlers Hall in London and be a celebration of achievement for outstanding learners, apprentices or providers.

 

Breaking: Hotly anticipated apprenticeship levy funding update released

Today marks the release of the much anticipated apprenticeship levy update. It is stated that nearly all employers will only have to contribute 10 per cent to the cost of an apprenticeship from April 2017, the Department for Education has announced this morning.

The news, previously reported when leaked by FE Week, comes as part of a three week consultation which details how much colleges and training providers would be paid for apprenticeships once the levy kicks in

The report by the independent panel on technical education, chaired by Lord Sainsbury, is published. In parallel, the Government published its Skills Plan, which responds to the panel’s recommendations and sets out our overarching framework for the skills system.  Both are available here.

BBC Food and Farming award winners Charcutier Ltd!

We are delighted to announce that FDQ centre Charcutier Ltd were winners of ‘Best Food Producer’ at the BBC Food and Farming Awards 2016. The awards have 10 categories which reflect the changes in British food culture, new ideas and business trends. Judges receive thousands of nominations from every region and a shortlist of three finalists in each category is decided and signed off by the entire judging panel.

Verner Wheelock students achieve outstanding results for Auditing courses

Food industry training experts Verner Wheelock first began running FDQ auditing courses in September 2013. Over the past two years they have trained over 500 delegates in Auditing Skills courses, with extremely impressive results.

Verner Wheelock developed their own suite of auditing courses several years ago because they felt that accredited courses at the time were based far too much on theory alone. They lacked the necessary practical elements to give delegates the skills and confidence to perform effective audits themselves.
