The entries are in. The finalists have been announced. The final countdown to the Food Manufacturing Oscars is now on.
FDQ is sponsoring the Training Programme of the Year award at the Food Manufacturing Excellence Awards 2013, hosted by Food Manufacture in just 8 days time. The glittering awards dinner will take place at the Park Lane Hilton, London on Thursday 21st November 2013, with guest host Countryfile presenter, Julia Bradbury.

The Great British Butcher Academy team have just announced that they are teaming up with Reaseheath College in Nantwich to train the next generation of british butchers.
Starting in September 2013, young people will be able to embark on a brand new Professional Butchery qualification.
This is one of the most comprehensive courses in the UK, and learners taking this qualification will develop a range of critical butchery skills and knowledge which will prepare them either for an apprenticeship or employment in the sector.

It is likely that 2013 will be remembered as an unlucky number for large swathes of the food industry in this country.
Yet whilst the media focus their attention on all that is bad in one part of the food industry, there is a lot happening that is positive in the multi-billion pound seafood industry. An area which may indeed see something of a surge, as consumer confidence is knocked by recent red meat revelations.

It cannot be denied that industry has not been a particularly easy place to be of late. And judging by economic forecasts, although the food industry in the UK is strong and arguably growing, in order to survive - and even better, to thrive - businesses need to be ever smarter, ever leaner, ever more competitive.

A transatlantic partnership has been agreed between US innovators Alchemy Systems and UK specialist food and drink awarding organisation, FDQ. The partnership sees the launch in the UK of an award-winning food safety training platform.
This platform will enable food processing and manufacturing businesses to deliver and document high quality, accredited and endorsed training to their workforce efficiently and effectively.

The last week of April was a big one for all of us at FDQ, as we held our first annual conference in Nottingham. We are delighted as the event saw an amazing turnout and has been deemed a huge success by both employers and learning providers.
So, if you weren’t there what did you miss? Quite a lot actually; delegates left feeling informed, positive and better prepared to tackle the challenges ahead.
