The newly launched FDQ assessment tool, is available to demo today!

This FDQ Assessment System is a tablet based app, which can be used both online and offline, designed to expedite and improve the assessment process from the very first time you use it. It will reduce unnecessary paperwork, improve accuracy and save your assessors' time and money.

After two years of remaining in the background at FDQ, I decided to claim some of the limelight myself and do an interview with Hot Courses!

Many FDQ centres already have a presence on this site, so in order to support their promotional work I wanted to provide background information about our remit.

You never know you might learn something you didn't already know about FDQ!

Walter Smith Fine Foods, a specialist meat and fine foods business, based in Birmingham, was last night revealed as the Medium Employer of the Year 2013 in the National Apprenticeship Awards at a ceremony at the NEC.

The Awards, are run by the National Apprenticeship Service and recognise excellence in two areas: businesses that grow their own talent with apprentices and apprentices who have made a significant contribution to their workplaces.

The entries are in. The finalists have been announced. The final countdown to the Food Manufacturing Oscars is now on.

FDQ is sponsoring the Training Programme of the Year award at the Food Manufacturing Excellence Awards 2013, hosted by Food Manufacture in just 8 days time. The glittering awards dinner will take place at the Park Lane Hilton, London on Thursday 21st November 2013, with guest host Countryfile presenter, Julia Bradbury.

We want to make all our centres fully aware of an all-important Skills Funding Agency (SFA) announcement which came out recently; this relates to 19+ funding for qualifications OUTSIDE of the apprenticeship framework.

This means qualifications which sit within apprenticeship frameworks are not affected by this announcement.

The Great British Butcher Academy team have just announced that they are teaming up with Reaseheath College in Nantwich to train the next generation of british butchers.

Starting in September 2013, young people will be able to embark on a brand new Professional Butchery qualification.

This is one of the most comprehensive courses in the UK, and learners taking this qualification will develop a range of critical butchery skills and knowledge which will prepare them either for an apprenticeship or employment in the sector.

It is likely that 2013 will be remembered as an unlucky number for large swathes of the food industry in this country. 

Yet whilst the media focus their attention on all that is bad in one part of the food industry, there is a lot happening that is positive in the multi-billion pound seafood industry. An area which may indeed see something of a surge, as consumer confidence is knocked by recent red meat revelations.

We continue to choose FDQ for their high levels of expertise in food industry qualifications.
